PNW is a collection of photographs spanning Jessica Cantlin’s experiences in the Pacific Northwest. Her pensive ruminations on the properties of water bleed into other emblems of the area— bigleaf maple groves, the barren hills of Eastern Washington, and unanticipated flurries of snow. Cantlin revels in moments of frozen tranquility, where vast expanses of stillness engulf her central subjects as unassuming spectators. Birds, horses, and boats rest against oscillating color fields that reexamine the piercing atmosphere of a day at the beach or a stroll in the woods. Cantlin’s compositions treat landscapes as texturally immersive moments broken down to their peaceful essence. A bustling, mid-morning ferry is given the same thoughtful attention as a beach platform suspended between water and sky. In showcasing the breadth of quietude in the PNW, Cantlin suggests that one need not travel far to experience the mystical clarity of wanderlust.
Jessica Cantlin is a fine art photographer and writer. After leaving her career as a successful attorney, Jessica searched for ways to “feed her wanderlust”. By creating the popular blog of the same name, she was able to document her travels and share her experiences, with the hopes of inspiring others to appreciate the beauty surrounding them.
