ANN GARDNER: Variations

Artists: Ann Gardner

Exhibition Information:

Dates
March 4, 2014 - April 17, 2014

Northwest artist Ann Gardner is known for her unique sculptures that use hand cut, tinted and etched glass to create elegant mosaic-covered forms that challenge the physical boundaries of her medium.  In Variations, Gardner continues this exploration of form, light, and pattern with the inclusion of blown glass, free hanging mosaic tiles, and bronze sculpture in addition to her signature glass mosaics. The work seeks harmony and balance while providing a tension between the diverse surfaces of the fluid line sculptures.

Gardner’s uncanny ability to capture a sense of movement and fluidity in her works is evident in the various mediums she has employed for this exhibition. Based on simple line drawings, suspended sculptures lyrically move through space. Glass mosaics reflect and absorb light, while the bronze works draw the eye to the structure of each form, creating an intimate and meditative interaction with the viewer. Ann Gardner is a Seattle based artist, recognized with numerous awards and public commissions.  She most recently installed two sculptures at the Bellevue Arts Museum in Bellevue, Washington. Her work can be seen at the Amazon Corporate offices (Seattle), San Antonio International Airport, Fairbanks International Airport, and the Washington State Convention and Trade Center (Seattle).  Her work is also included in many major collections such as the American Craft Museum in New York City, NY; Seattle Art Museum, WA; Corning Museum of Glass, NY; National Museum of American Art in Washington D.C.; and the Bureau of Cultural Affairs in Atlanta, Georgia.
