Tatyana Murray’s mixed media sculptures radiate with the transfixing glow of a streetlight beaming through trees in a city park. The London-born, New York City-based artist creates intricate natural forms born out of light— refracted LEDs bounce through layers of etched glass to produce ghostly echoes of trees, coral, and other organic matter. The images float in limbo, not quite representations of the real object, but more transcendent than the artificial mechanisms that bring them to life. The manmade and the natural distortedly blur together, exposing the fragile connection between ourselves and the surrounding world. Murray solidifies the intangible, creating substance out of pure illumination.

Murray’s other work incorporates environmental issues through recycled, unorthodox materials. Her work centers around a spiritual connection to nature that manifests through a re-appropriation of fabricated, manufactured items. She invites the viewer to meditate into— and beyond —the surface, allowing for the slow reveal of serenity in both the real and the fabricated.

Tatyana Murray’s work has been exhibited in New York and the Hamptons, as well as internationally in France, England, Spain, Italy, and Austria. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, La Gazette, the Huffington Post, and Connaissance des Arts.
