Long interested in abstraction, Donald Sultan’s flower paintings utilize visual play between positive and negative space, bold coloration and contrast, and ambiguity of scale. Furthermore, his works on paper investigate the forms of flowers in conte crayon and flock on paper, resulting in largely monochromatic and prominent images.
